To New York and The American Red Cross
Today I pledge 1 million dollars to New York & The American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief. If it wasn’t for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today. New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is a natural pursuit of diversity through compassion. Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia, and my sister Natali; with our deepest gratitude New York for raising us. Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours.
Sincerely,
Lady Gaga and The Germanottas
Lady Gaga will launch her hotly anticipated “Born This Way Ball” world tour Friday on an elaborate castle-like stage. And fans in Asia will be the first to see it.
But not everyone is looking forward to her performance.
AFP reports that conservative Christians in South Korea have banded together, accusing the pop singer of advocating homosexuality and pornography.
Nearly 300 Protestant church members met in Seoul Sunday to hold a group prayer against Friday’s concert.
Members of the group Alliance for Sound Culture in Sexuality put up posters in Seoul, accusing Gaga of “spreading unhealthy sexual culture” through “lewd lyrics and performances.” The fliers have since been removed by city officials, reports AFP.
The concert in Seoul has been banned for anyone under 18, a rule imposed by the Korea Media Rating Board. In early March. Lady Gaga reacted to the ban, tweeting, “Although not affecting ticket sales in Seoul, parents should be given more credit to determine what’s good for their children. I love my fans. Thank u to all the adults in Korea who are speaking out for underaged who want to come to the BTW Ball. Maybe the gov. will change their mind.”
The Edge of Glory singer is no stranger to controversy having previously admitted to taking cocaine, while in January Gaga said hungry dinner guests ended up ‘stoned’ after her culinary attempts took too long.
Her latest drugs reference came in a Twitter post following her arrival in Seoul, with Gaga telling her 23million followers: ‘Jet lag last night was like bad shrooms.
‘When my dad asked what that meant I told him it’s like being in a musical you don’t want to be in.’
The post is only likely to strengthen the resolve of protesters in South Korea, who have campaigned against the star’s concert in the country.
Conservative South Korean Christians have accused the US pop star of ‘advocating homosexuality and pornography’, while concert promoters were unable to dissuade the Korea Media Rating Board from banning under 18s from the upcoming gig.Earlier this month Gaga had expressed disappointment that children would be prevented from coming to the concert, writing: ‘Thanku to all the adults in Korea who are speaking out for underaged who want to come to the BTW Ball.
‘Maybe the gov. will change their mind Although not affecting ticketsales in Seoul, parents should be given more credit to determine whats good for their children. I love my fans.’
Gaga was seen flexing her muscles while using an electric drill to secure some floor panels to the 70,000 seat stadium.
The star enjoyed getting her hands dirty and mixing with her crew and tweeted a message to her fans along with the pictures.
She said: ‘I will do anything for my fans! Having fun with the stage crew guys, screwing on the runway. A Real Iron Maiden!’
Although Gaga was all smiles as she got her hands on some big tools, she chose not to wear any conventional overalls for her manual labor.
The multimillion pound selling artist stayed true to form in a pair of platform ankle boots which she teamed with a pair of fishnet tights.

Lady Gaga’s business manager, Troy Carter, will judge an eight-hour hackathon at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, on March 11th. Geeks will vie to create new ideas to do with digital music distribution. The event will be hosted by Backplane, a tech start-up co-founded by Mr Carter, which has just launched its first product, a web community for Lady Gaga called LittleMonsters.com (after the pop star’s pet name for her fans).
The goal is to create a one-stop shop for everything Gaga. Fans will be able to download her music, buy tickets for her shows and chat with each other (and even, perhaps, with the singer herself). It will feature “social ticketing”, which will make it easy for fans to find concert seats near their friends and even start conversations beforehand with strangers they will be sitting with. Translation software will allow fans without a language in common to chat about changing the world one sequin at a time.
Lady Gaga leads a pack of singers trailing behind her in Twitter follower numbers. As long as Google continues to limit social media on Youtube, to push its Circles, music fans will have little choice but to use Twitter. Behind Lady Gaga with 18 million + followers is Justin Bieber. Averaging 15 million + followers each, are Katy Perry, Shakira and Rihanna. While musicians may be dominating Twitter, reality stars will do everything they can to get attention, including fake weddings, so a platform to stay in the limelight can hardly be ignored. Close behind the singers is the queen of real-life drama, Kim Kardashian. She earns the unique distinction of being the 6th most followed user on Twitter.
Lady Gaga is now a big fan of T.I. and Tiny‘s girl group the OMG Girlz, and she recently put her stamp of approval on the group, tweeting that she was “obsessed” with them and sharing a link to their new music video on YouTube.
“Im sort of obsessed with these little cuties: The OMG Girlz. I just want comb their hair and tie bows in it all day!!!” Gaga — the most followed celebrity on Twitter — tweeted to her 20 million plus fans, giving the OMG Girlz a MAJOR boost in popularity.
